Early Career Leadership Program Code of Conduct

Purpose

This Code of Conduct governs the conduct of Early Career Leadership Program (ECLP) representatives and program participants with respect to any meetings, communications, or activities associated with the ECLP. Activities and communications of the ECLP include Slack workspaces, email communications, virtual seminars and workshops, subcommittee meetings, phone calls, texts, and in-person gatherings. As this is a virtual program, the majority of meetings will be hosted using the Zoom online platform, and conduct within the Zoom chat and meetings is expected to follow this Code of Conduct.

Unacceptable Behaviors

Unacceptable behaviors include, but are not limited to:

• Intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning speech or actions by any participant and at all related events
• Harmful or prejudicial verbal or written comments or visual images related to gender, gender expression, gender identity, marital status, sexual orientation, race, religion, political orientation, socioeconomic status, disability or ability status, or other personal characteristics, including those protected by any applicable state or federal law
• Unsolicited use of nudity and/or sexual images (including presentation slides, posters, Slack channels, or Zoom chat)
• Deliberate intimidation or stalking
• Violating the rules and regulations of the online provider, Zoom
• Unreasonable disruption of seminars, workshops, meetings, virtual sessions, or other events
• Unwelcome and uninvited attention or contact in any form
• Real or implied threat of physical harm
• Real or implied threat of professional or financial damage or harm
• Photographing or reproducing slides of seminars, workshops, meetings, virtual sessions, or other events without permission
• Recording of seminars, workshops, meetings, or virtual sessions without permission
• Personal use of GSA-provided resources such as Smartsheet, Slack, Zoom, and Otter.ai for inappropriate or unauthorized content or events
• Continuous unwanted and unsolicited email communications to ECLP members about non-ECLP matters

To confidentially report a Code of Conduct violation or to file a complaint, including a complaint about a GSA volunteer or GSA staff member, please visit genetics-gsa.ethicspoint.com. Compliance with the Code

Anyone asked by GSA staff, an ECLP Representative, Workshop Leader, Moderator, Presenter, Interviewee, or Zoom representative to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. Retaliation toward GSA staff and/or contract workers or toward someone reporting an incident will not be tolerated and may result in additional sanctions.

Violations of GSA’s Code of Conduct may result in:

• Immediate removal from accessing in-person and/or virtual meetings and Slack channels without warning
• Termination of ECLP representative status
• Restrictions from future GSA activities
• Removal from GSA Board, Committees, Task Forces, or related groups
• Incidents may be reported to the proper authorities
